The Summer Texas Toot offers a one-week program of classes at all levels, focusing on Renaissance and Baroque music, but also ranging from Medieval to Sephardic to 21st century. Expert instructors in recorder, viol, lute, harp, continuo, reeds, and voice will teach technique classes, coach one-on-a-part groups, and lead larger ensembles, both mixed and whole.
We are proud to feature these world-class faculty for the Summer Toot:
Jennifer Carpenter and Jody Miller, recorder
Joan Kimball, recorder and reeds; Danny Johnson, voice
Mary Springfels, Sydney ZumMallen and Carol Deihl, viola da gamba
Therese Honey, harp; Héctor Alfonso Torres González, lute
Please join us for the 2025 Summer Texas Toot … “more than recorders”! We are very excited to welcome you to our home base: Schreiner University, in Kerrville, Texas! Nestled in the beauty of the Texas Hill Country, Schreiner’s campus provides all the classrooms, concert spaces, housing, and meals that you expect as part of the Toot experience. The campus itself is beautifully landscaped with lots of trees and broad sidewalks, and all the public buildings are fully ADA-accessible.
But there is much more! Outdoor recreation opportunities abound, in this small city right on the Guadalupe River. For recreational walkers and runners, the 5-mile public River Trail has a trailhead right at the university, with a pub and lovely outdoor beer garden! For the non-walkers among us, freely available parking lots around the campus make it easy to move from housing to dining to classrooms.
IMPORTANT COVID-19 information for all registrants:
While it is exciting to return to playing together in person, we recognize that the Covid-19 virus is still at large in our world. The Summer Texas Toot requires the following of all students, staff, and faculty, regarding Covid-19:
All attendees, at registration, must present a negative Covid test result obtained within the 24 hours prior to the start of the workshop. A photo of the test will suffice. If you did not test, we will have some tests onsite for you to buy and use; a positive result will mean you cannot be admitted. We recommend that you test at home before setting out for the workshop.
We look forward to welcoming you to our Texas Tradition!
