The East Winds are Blowing: Come explore the songs and fancies of Michael East and other English madrigalists active during the beginning of the 17th century. Lower-intermediate to Intermediate recorders
Musica antica, Bologna Q16: This 15th-century manuscript is undoubtedly of instrumental origin and shows us how vocal works were skillfully arranged for instrumentalists. These 3-part pieces will challenge your fingers and develop your rhythm! Upper-intermediate to Advanced players; all instruments welcome, particularly loud winds!
Siesta: Cori spezzati: We’ll explore representative Venetian polychoral music made popular by Merula, Gabrieli, Monteverdi, and others. Open to all levels and instruments

Renaissance Madrigals from Italy and England: There was much cross-fertilization of madrigal composition between Italy and England (mostly from Italy to England). We will play some pieces showing this and play others which are specifically typical of each country. Intermediate to Upper-intermediate recorders
Masters of the Italian Canzona: Canzone and Ricercari, including music of Frescobaldi, Guami, Priuli and Gabrieli. Intermediate and up recorders
Music we can Handel: Music by George Friedrich Handel and his contemporaries, approached gently Lower-intermediate and up recorders
Siesta: Fun Arrangements: Kick back and relax with some music to play just for fun. Could be Scott Joplin ragtime, a light Classical work, or maybe even a Sousa march! Intermediate and up recorders

Recorder music by 20th-century composers: survey course of music by recent composers, music from the ARS Members' Library, etc. For people who want to play a lot and see more contemporary music (not necessarily "modern"). Recorders, Intermediate and up.
Siesta: Krummhorn Kindergarten: Come learn the basics of playing a krummhorn or other capped reed, so you'll be a star at the Krummhorn Konclave later this week! All welcome; instruments provided, or bring your own.

At the Texas Toot Summer 2016, Peter Maund will teach:
Chominciamento di gioia: Medieval Dance Music from Italy and England. We’ll explore the lively and lovely repertoire of 14th century instrumental dance music. Most of the music is monophonic, allowing us to create accompaniments, percussion parts and varied instrumentations. Upper-intermediate and up for melody players; all levels of percussion welcome.
Songs and Dance: Music from the time of Boccaccio to Shakespeare. We'll play medieval and renaissance music from Italy and England, including music for Shakespeare plays and Trecento songs and dances. Singing is optional and welcomed! All instruments and voices, all levels
Beat Generation I: An introduction to playing hand drums and other percussion instruments. We'll learn basic playing techniques for percussion instruments commonly used in early and world music traditions. We'll explore rhythms, improvise pieces and accompany music from all over the world. Some instruments will be provided but if possible, please bring a hand drum (frame drum, doumbek) and/or tambourine. All welcome; no experience necessary.
Siesta: Workshop-wide drum circle: you'll get a bang out of it! Grab a percussion instrument and get in the groove. Don’t have a drum? Bring an (empty) wastebasket, box, pot or anything you can hit, slap or shake. All welcome; bring percussion instruments to play and share.

The Greatest Madrigalists (Wert, Marenzio, Monteverdi) Viols, voices
Carver Mass Project: This Robert Carver work is quite a splendid L’homme arme mass in 4 parts with the occasional trio and duo. The tune isn't strictly a cantus firmus, but is at chanson tempo, and spread throughout all the parts. Written c.1520 and similar to Eton Choirbook Repertoire. Viols, voices, recorders
Siesta: Central European Renaissance: A little wild and crazy music from Radom and others. All welcome.

At the Texas Toot Summer 2016, Jane Leggiero will teach:
Counterpoint, Purcell, and the End of the Consort Age: Just enough of an overview of counterpoint to dig deeper into the music, along with ample examples to play and enjoy. Much of the viol consort repertoire we love was composed for the enjoyment of intellectual patrons who knew more about counterpoint than we tend to know today. Level-up your erudition as well as your love of this charming, affective, and often quite clever music. When we get to Purcell, we'll take it slow and steady, so don't be scared! Intermediate and up viols.
Game of Thrones: Music by and for kings and queens, with as much scheming (and as little nudity) as possible. All instruments, intermediate.

Beginning Viol: Learn to play the viola da gamba from the very beginning, hone your skills if you've already begun, try a new size or clef, or bring your questions and problems. The Ayerie East: Interesting titles, "light and airy" pieces, frequent dance rhythms, delicious cross relations, and a decidedly popular character - Michael East’s Ayerie Fancies were popular when he published them in the early 1600s, and when republished by Playford during the Commonwealth. East himself says these pieces "may be as well sung as plaid", though "to the bare note" (as there are no words) - so singers are also welcome! Dancing in Italy: A large number of dances were found in part-books brought to England by the Earl of Arundel upon his return from Italy in 1560. Baroque continuo class: Open to all chordal instrument players: harps, lutes, keyboards. Focusing on early 17th century repertory. Intermediate and up, any chordal instrument.
Continuo Song (with Danny Johnson): Focusing on 17th and 18th century vocal music in conjunction with the vocal class. Intermediate and up, chordal instruments and voices.
