Schedule and Housing Details
for the 1st Summer Texas Toot

May 31 - June 6, 1999


Toot participants staying on campus will be housed in Studtman Hall (building #8 on the campus map, along Luther Lane, catty-corner from St. Paul Lutheran Church). You may check into your rooms after 5:30 on Monday, May 31. If your travel plans necessitate a Sunday arrival, arrangements will be made for housing (at a modest extra cost). No meals will be available in the college cafeteria before breakfast, Tuesday, June 1.

Registration for the Toot will be in the lobby of Louise T. Peter Center (#7 on the campus map, across Luther Lane from St. Paul Lutheran Church) beginning at 5:30 p.m. Monday, May 31.
  • Room check-in starts: 5:30 Monday evening
  • Registration starts: 5:30 Monday evening
  • Meals begin: Tuesday breakfast
A group playing session will begin at 7:30 Monday evening in Schroeder Performance Hall (inside the Peter Center). Faculty will be introduced during that session, schedules explained, and questions answered. We hope that all participants will be able to attend that session, which will be followed by refreshments and English Country Dancing led by Carol Deihl.

Meals (for those who are boarding) will be served in Texas Dining Hall (#12 on the campus map, where Harmon Avenue abuts Concordia Avenue). We have had to guarantee 40 meals in order for the cafeteria to be open for our workshop participants. Currently, there are 32 boarding. We hope that some who are not boarding will elect to eat in the cafeteria, thereby lowering our deficit. Alcoholic beverages are not allowed on the Concordia campus. Meal times are:
  • Breakfast: 7:15 - 8:30
  • Lunch: 11:45 - 1:00
  • Dinner: 6:00 - 7:00
Classes begin Tuesday morning. Most classes will be help in the Peter Center; Dell Hollingsworth's classes will be in Birkman Chapel (#1 on the campus map, along the I-35 frontage road, between Concordia Avenue and the Athletic Fields). The daily class schedule is:
  • Period 1: 8:30 - 10:00
  • Period 2: 10:00 - 11:30
  • Period 3: 1:00 - 2:30
  • Period 4: 2:30 - 4:00
  • Period 5: 4:00 - 5:30
A detailed schedule and class lists will be posted at registration. Each person has been scheduled for four classes with one period free. It has been possible to honor almost all class requests; if there has been a question about yours, you have already heard from us. Though the schedule is tight, flexibility is possible; you can request changes if a particular class does not meet your needs.

Evening events begin at 7:30 and are followed by English Country Dancing (except Friday). Your friends, family, and the Austin area general public can attend the evening events (at no admission charge, but we invite donations). All evening events will be preceded by madrigal singing at 7:00 in the Peter Center lobby, led by Frank Shirley.

Evening activities are as follows:
  • Tues, Wed, Fri 7:00 - madrigal singing
  • Tues, Wed after the main event - English Country Dancing
  • Tuesday 7:30: concert by La Folia of Austin
  • Wednesday 7:30: concert by historical harpist Becky Baxter of Houston
  • Thursday: free evening
  • Friday 7:30: faculty concert, followed by the Great Texas Krummhorn Konclave at Scholz Garten, 1607 San Jacinto Street.
The final event of the workshop is a student concert at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, June 5. All classes will be encouraged to participate. The final meal in the college cafeteria is dinner on Saturday evening. You do not have to check out of the dorm rooms until Sunday morning.

Due to budget constraints, the banquet mentioned in the brochure will not be held this year. Hopefully, there will be a banquet in the future as enrollment increases.
